About Us

The Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) was founded in November 2007 to help Asian heritage scientific and engineering professionals achieve their full potential. Organizations existed for other affinity groups - The National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and the Society of Women Engineers – and there was a need for a similar organization where students representing all of the pan Asian cultures could connect and support each other. The Procter & Gamble Company saw the opportunity to improve the recruiting, retention and development of Asian heritage scientists and engineers via a nationally recognized technical organization with student chapters on college campuses. In 2007-08 P&G provided the initial membership contribution to establish SASE as a 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 2007, SASE has rapidly grown to over 85+ collegiate chapters and still continues to grow.

As a chapter, we have shown signs of improvement and growth at every level. In 2022, we were awarded Honorable Mention for Most Improved SASE Chapter out of over 90+ schools. We have collaboarated with other student organizations at Lamar, such as the American Medical Student Association, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and many more! We also have collaborated with other SASE chapters, most recently UH SASE. Together, we have built a strong community with areas of professional, cultural, and community growth.
